Dear supporters and friends of the Peace Community San José de Apartadó!
On June 5, 2025, a historic event will take place in Bogotá. The peace community has been invited by the Colombian government to an official celebration at the Presidential Palace. President Gustavo Petro will apologize for everything that has happened to the community since its inception at the hands of the government. It almost sounds like a miracle that is only made possible through Petro’s government. The community has decided to collaborate with the government after going into civil resistance since its founding in 1997.
We have both been invited at short notice to this historic event. We have been accompanying them for 20 years and have been invited to be part of a public ceremony and also to make an official contribution. For this occasion, we have spontaneously decided to travel to Bogotá to celebrate this day together with the community. We would also like to have Helena Manrique (a long-time supporter of the community and former head of the organization Peace Brigades) with us for support and as an official translator.
Following the official event, we will hold various discussions with the community, supporters, and government representatives to look toward future work together.
We have now booked the flights! Everything is very last minute, and we ask for your support for travel expenses. (We need approximately 4,800 euros for flight and accommodation).
