The story of a rescue of a small, young and paralyzed dog

Pumi is a very strong and sweet dog. She was miraculously found and rescued by our dogshelter team. She is about 3-4 years young, has already given birth to several puppies and, has a weight of 5.8 kg, is a little bundle of energy with infinite love and gratitude for life.

We knew the area where we found har, we saw there animal suffering before. Through an inner prompting, we visited the place again and discovered Pumi. When she saw us, she crawled out of the dense brambles and crawled across the small road towards us. Her fur was completely matted, she was covered in ticks and her two hind feet were dragging on the stony ground. The wounds on her delicate legs were very deep, sometimes right down to the bone.

Pumi sat up and howled. It was a howl that went deep into the heart. To us it sounded like the cry of a creature that senses its last chance: Take me with you!

We learned from the neighbor that Pumi had been attacked 5 weeks ago by a large female dog from the neighborhood, who probably had puppies herself, and had been bitten in the back so that vertebrae were broken. The owners, people who live in difficult circumstances, decided not to take Pumi to the doctor. This is unbelievable for us, but it is a reality. How Pumi managed to survive in the middle of summer without being fed is hard to believe. It’s like a miracle.

We knew when we felt her bony and dehydrated body that she would probably have died within the next few hours.
The “owner” of the little one saw us near his house and we told him that we would take the dog with us and take her to the hospital immediately.

At the “Animalia” hospital in Beja, with which we are happy to cooperate, Pumi was first cared for and treated for 10 days.
For the subsequent care, Pumi was then taken to the “Glückshof” of the dog sanctuary, where animals with special needs are always accommodated.

Pumi has the chance to find a permanent home here. She can be cared for and supported according to her disabilities. Dogs with paralyzed legs definitely have a chance to lead a full life. They need a little more attention and help.
We even see a certain chance of achieving a little more mobility in their hind legs with regular physiotherapy.

Pumi has now been sponsored a wheelchair that fits her perfectly. Her incontinence can be integrated with the necessary experience and routine.

We cordially invite you to support the life of this enchanting creature. We will be happy to send you regular updates and photos of Pumi. This way you can connect with the little one in your heart permanently.

We would be delighted if you are interested in Pumi and would like to support her – please write to us at: dogs@tamera.org
